Carmen entertains at Coronado

Carmen, the French opera written by George Bizet of a gypsy girl and a handsome soldier, dazzled and entertained local fans at the Coronado Theatre Sunday, Feb. 6.

The 50-member Sofia Symphony Orchestra, a 40-member chorus and a ballet company accompanied the Teatro Lirico d’Europa’s production that included new sets, costumes and English surtitles. The event was presented by the Rockford Coronado Concert Association (RCCA). RCCA’s next event is the Canadian Brass March 13. More info: 968-9863.

The RCCA’s 2004-2005 season also features the Russian National Ballet Theatre of Moscow performing Sleeping Beauty April 21.

The RCCA has nearly 2,000 subscribers from northern Illinois. The group is governed by a local volunteer board of directors, and has served the community since 1936.
