Celtic Night celebration July 24 at Sinnissippi

Need another reason to celebrate summer? Charlotte’s Web will get you in the spirit with Celtic Night Saturday, July 24, at 7:30 p.m. Enjoy the Summer Series at the Sinnissippi Park Music Shell, 1401 N. Second St.

Navan—four friends sharing their love of traditional Celtic music—catch us up in their magic spell. Elizabeth Fine, Paul Gorman, Sheila Shigley and Joan Bettner Steele bring us the songs retrieved from the mists of time. Singing in the languages of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall and the Isle of Man—children’s songs, working songs, love songs, story songs, lullabies, religious songs, tributes and laments—Navan skillfully brings these beautiful hidden gems out for us to enjoy.

For a change of pace, The Sandcarvers play a straight-ahead style, blending folk, Celtic, rock and pop into a sound all their own… one of the freshest faces in Celtic music today. Guitar, recorders, bassoon, keyboards, bodhran, digital bagpipes, drums, percussion and vocals—they’ve got it all.

Founded in 1966, The Sandcarvers began as a collaboration between vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Tony Guinn and bassist/lead guitarist Jamie Verbeten. In 1998, they were joined by Thomas C. Mlot on drums and percussion.
