Center for Learning in Retirement holds Annual Meeting Aug. 3

Rock Valley College’s Center for Learning in Retirement (CLR) will host its 13th Annual Meeting Thursday, Aug. 3.

The Annual Meeting is an opportunity for retired people, 50 years and older, to receive a copy of the Center’s fall session schedule of short-term classes and trips.

Meeting starts at 1 p.m. at Tebala Shrine Auditorium, and is free and open to the public.

CLR is a community-based membership organization for people who share a love of learning. A yearly membership fee of $22 entitles one to register for fall, winter and summer classes. The program averages 1,900 members per year.

This year’s meeting features special entertainment, a Power Point presentation, door prizes and refreshments.

Dawn DiVeneti, “The Hobo Queen,” personifies hobos from a previous era. As the National Hobo Queen, she is a storyteller and relates firsthand experiences of living in a family during the Depression when it was common to enjoy simple, meaningful pleasures while sitting by a bonfire.

The Power Point program features new classes for fall, upcoming trips and events, new advisory committee members and a call for needed volunteers for upcoming CLR functions.

The sustaining sponsor for this event is RBC Dain Rauscher. The contributing sponsor is OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.
