Charlotte's Web brings in favorites

Claudia Schmidt and Rod MacDonald will appear at 8 p.m., Friday, April 15 at the Lion’s Den at Rockford College, 5050 E. State St. On Saturday, catch a free performance of The Whale & the Sandpiper at the Rockford Public Library Auditorium, 215 N. Wyman St.

Schmidt has spent 26 years as a touring professional, traversing North America as well as Europe in venues ranging from intimate clubs to 4,000-seat theaters, and festival stages in front of 25,000 rapt listeners. She has recorded 11 albums of mostly original songs, exploring folk, blues, and jazz idioms featuring her acclaimed 12-string guitar, mountain dulcimer, and incredible vocals.

MacDonald was a major player in the Greenwich Village Fast Folk movement in the ’80s and ’90s. He tempers an angry political attitude with songs about the weather, marriage and nature. “He’s one of the great ones,” says the Kerrville Music Festival’s Rod Kennedy.
