Charlottes Web promises a hot night of cool jazz
Jazz saxophonist Mark Colby will appear in the Sinnissippi Summer Series, sponsored by Charlottes Web for the Performing Arts, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27. This free performance will be held in the Sinnissippi Park Music Shell, 1401 N. Second St. in Rockford.
Colby has performed with Frank Sinatra, Gerry Mulligan, Maynard Ferguson, Jaco Pastorius, Bob James, Charlie Haden, Mose Allison and most recently with the Rock Valley Jazz Ensemble. A jazz faculty member at DePaul University for nearly two decades, he also teaches at Elmhurst College and at high school and college clinics across the country. Colby is a top-rated studio musician, heard in more than 2,000 commercials in the Chicago market.
For this concert, entitled Tenor Reference, Colby will be joined by Steve Million on piano, Scott Hall on trumpet, Bob Rummage on drums and Kelly Sill, bass. Colby has two recordings on Columbia, and his most recent is on the Hallway Records label, founded by Rockton native and musician Hall.
The Charlottes Web Sinnissippi Summer Series is co-sponsored by the Rockford Park District and WNIJ-Radio. This performance is also co-sponsored by Hallway Records.
