Mendelssohn Club will be the setting once again this weekend as Charlottes Web welcomes contemporary folksinger Carrie Newcomer, who performs at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30.
Songwriter, activist, mother and teacher Carrie Newcomer received a top-ranked four-star review for her last album, The Age of Possibility, from USA Today. This concert will celebrate her latest (No. 9) CD, The Gathering of Spirits. With a deep connectedness to the sacred in life, … her material asks the right questions and refuses to settle for easy answers (Rolling Stone).
Tony Peyser at the Santa Monica Mirror described Newcomer as a person who has the ability to unflinchingly look at the dark sides of life and still find some light. She comes across as the kind of person youd call first the second you got some really bad news. He compared her previous album, The Age of Possibility, to a book of poetry. He was awed by the combination of her insightful lyrics and stirring melodies.
Called … a soaring songstress by Billboard, the reviewer from the Austin American-Statesman … was captivated by her poise, the deceptively effortless assurance of her songwriting, and her voice, an instrument as dark, rich and luscious as Godiva chocolate.
Best-selling author Barbara Kingsolver writes, To my minda writers mindCarrie is much more than a musician. Shes a poet, storyteller, snake charmer, good neighbor, friend and lover, minister of the wide-eyed gospel of hope and grace.
Shes an Indiana native whose music resonates with audiences everywhere. Come to Mendelssohn Club at 415 N. Church St. and see for yourself.
