The Professional Bowlers Association Ladies and Legends Tour is back in Rockford this week at the Cherry Bowl. For the first time since 1996, the PBA senior tour is teaming with the women to bring back this event.
The third round of qualifying in the 2007 Hammer Ladies and Legends begins at 8 a.m. today (Wednesday, May 9) and continues into the evening at the Cherry Bowl. The first round of match play begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, May 10). The second round starts at 2 p.m., and the five-team stepladder finals are scheduled for 7 p.m.
Some of the PBA Senior Tours biggest names will be in town, including two-time defending PBA Senior Player of the Year and PBA Hall of Famer Tom Baker. Joining Baker are his fellow PBA hall of famers, David Ozio, Johnny Petraglia, David Soutar, Teata Semiz and Mark Roth.
One of the female stars in town is Kelly Kulick. She is fresh off a victory last week in the United States Bowling Congress Queens. Last season, she made history when she became the first female to earn a full-season exemption on the Dennys PBA tour. She finished sixth out of 140 bowlers in the 2006 Dennys PBA Tour Trials. She was the 2001 Professional Womens Bowlers Association (PWBA) Rookie of the Year. She won the 2003 U.S. Womens Open on the now-defunct PWBA tour.
