Cherry Valley holiday happenings
Quilt display at library
The Cherry Valley Public Library District is pleased to display the works of Dorothy Stank of Rockford. Her original quilt creation, Trail of 2000, was hand appliqued and hand quilted for the Sinnissippi Quilt Challenge last year as part of the Guilds 20th anniversary celebration. The theme of her striking quilt depicts a global tree of life set against a starry night, with silhouettes of a shepherd at the dawn of A.D. and a figure set before a modern city scape.
Ms. Stank has been quilting since 1983. Several of her works have been part of the traveling Hoffman Challenge Exhibits through the years. She has also exhibited at the juried quilt show in Paducah, Ky. Her quilt may be viewed during library open hours now through Jan. 15.
International Santa display
Santa Claus has come to town at the Cherry Valley Library. Dolls and figurines of Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, Sinter Klaus, Father Christmas and a host of other international white-bearded saints grace the shelves of the display case. They are just part of the collection of Bill Barret, volunteer and docent for the Graham-Ginestra House Museum. Barret began his collection about 10 years ago with a set of Hallmark ornaments. His collection of antique-style figurines and dolls now number in the hundreds. Friends of the Cherry Valley Library invite you to view this splendid collection now through Jan. 4.
