CherryVale to host ‘JANE’ kids’ activities

CherryVale Mall will host several different interactive kids’ activities each Saturday in August, courtesy of The Burpee Museum of Natural History. These activities are being held in conjunction with the “Pennies for JANE” fund-raising campaign co-sponsored by The Burpee Museum of Natural History, JCPenney, CherryVale Mall and Rockford Public School District No. 205. The “JANE” Kids’ Activities will be held on Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 1-4 p.m. on the upper level, near JCPenney at CherryVale Mall.

On Aug. 7, enjoy dinosaur story time at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Each story time will end with an arts and crafts session to make a take-home JANE dinosaur puppet. On Aug. 14, exploration continues as the Burpee Museum presents “JANE Explores—How to be a dino-hunter” at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Children will learn how bones are fossilized and can make a “jacket” of their own finger! On Aug. 21, color a dinosaur with “The Colors of JANE.” What color is a T-rex? Triceratops? Are they all green, or pink with polka dots? Families will find the answers to these and many other questions during this interactive session. On Aug. 28, children can see how long and tall dinosaurs are compared to themselves during “How do you measure up to JANE?”

Pennies for JANE

JANE, the Burpee Museum of Natural History’s dinosaur discovery, appeals to the imaginations of thousands of area school children and families. For the past two years, a fund-raising campaign called “Pennies for JANE” has been implemented in area schools to help the Burpee Museum build a permanent display for JANE. To thank the community for its past patronage and to celebrate the opening of its new store at CherryVale Mall, JCPenney, along with CherryVale Mall, approached the Burpee Museum to assist with fund-raising efforts for JANE. “The ‘Pennies for JANE” campaign is a partnership between JCPenney, Burpee Museum of Natural History, CherryVale Mall and Rockford Public School District No. 205, along with other area schools and organizations, to help the Burpee Museum reach its overall goal of $55,000 for JANE’s permanent display.
