Chetnik slate wins recount
The disputed election of officers by Teamsters Local 325 has been resolved. Teamster President James P. Hoffa ordered a recount of votes in the original Nov. 17 election.
The recount was conducted on Dec. 6 and showed Clifford Chentnik won re-election. The original outcome gave a narrow lead to Chentniks opponent.
I was sure the recount would reveal some errors in the tally, Chentnik said, but I was stunned by the final margin of victory. Three years ago, I received 29 percent of the vote in a hotly contested four-slate race. This time, a clear majority of Teamster Local 325 members saw fit to vote for me and my slate.
The recount order by Hoffa was seen as significant because Chentnik ran on a slate opposing Hoffa in the recent election of international officers of the Teamsters Union.
Chentnik will take office Jan. 1. He will be joined by incumbent President David Barker, Vice President Karen Armstrong, Recording Secretary Greg Chockley, and trustees Rubin Williams, Steve Cabrera and Quinn Riley.
