Children of the World set

The Without Shoes Modern Dance Company will present a new program March 8-10. Children from the community will participate on stage in an exciting and colorful performance based on children’s stories from around the world, including the popular book Anansi the Spider by Gerald McDermott.

The performance will be at Maddox Theater at Rockford College, 5050 E. State St.

Special performances for school groups are scheduled for 9:30 and 11 a.m. each day, and a public performance at 6:30 p.m., Friday, March 10.

A Spanish version of the production, featuring Spanish-speaking children from Barbour School, will be performed for school groups Thursday, March 9 at 9:30 a.m.

The length of the performance, 40 minutes, is very appropriate for young children’s attention span. Children will see other children performing, viewing an example of a project that required collaboration, discipline and commitment.

Children of the World dance and music performance has been specially created to fulfill elementary school curriculum standards. Teachers will receive a package prior to the performance containing information and activities to prepare the students and enhance their learning experience. Teachers will also receive a list with the math, language, social studies and science standards covered by the performance.

To make school group reservations, call Maria Castello at 815/962-0954. Tickets for the Friday evening public performance may be purchased in advance at Wonderland Books in Edgebrook Center for $8, or at the door for $10.
