To celebrate the completion of the campus renovation project, an open house will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Milestones RocVale campus, 4450 N. Rockton Ave. This renovation project began in the spring of 2002. In the first phase of the project, the nursing office was relocated to the administration building. Since this office was specifically designed to be a nursing office, it provides a better atmosphere for the nurses, staff and children. The second phase of this project included the complete remodeling and renovation of all five of the childrens cottages. The new floor plans allow for larger living areas throughout the home. Each cottage now has four single-occupancy bedrooms, three double-occupancy bedrooms, new bathrooms and kitchens, larger laundry rooms, more living and recreation space, as well as new paint, floors, carpet and appliances, said James P. Hamilton, president and CEO of Milestone, Inc. While it is difficult to measure quality of life, which was the driving force of this capital project, we have seen very positive reactions from the children. They are very happy in their new living quarters and are enjoying the larger living areas, Hamilton said. Milestone, Inc., a 501(c)(3) Illinois not-for-profit organization, has been providing educational, vocational and residential services to developmentally disabled adults in the community for more than 30 years. In 2001, RocVale Childrens Home became a division of Milestone, Inc. Milestone now provides programs and services for individuals with developmental disabilities age 6 through adult. Milestone has 38 facilities that include group homes, a specialized care residential facility, a child care facility, a sheltered workshop, a training center, a dental clinic and a senior center.
