Children’s Theater Project offers Rosie & The Nutshell Kids

Rosie & The Nutshell Kids, a “play with music,” is an adaptation of the Caldecot-winning children’s author Maurice Sendak. This is Children’s Theater Project’s fourth year and ninth workshop. The show opened Saturday, April 1, and the next performances are scheduled for Saturday, April 8 at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 9 at 2 p.m. Shows are held in the Rockford Woman’s Club, 317 Park Ave., in downtown Rockford.

The play is based on characters from Sendak’s Nutshell Kids library. This show includes characters from Alligators All Around, Chicken Soup with Rice, One Was Johnny, Pierre, Sign on Rosie’s Door, In the Night Kitchen and Higglety Pigglety Pop! The musical portion consists of themes from Mozart and other children’s music including selections by Carole King.

Fifty-six cast members ages 6 to 11 have come together since January from all over the Winnebago and Boone County area to rehearse for this production. This show has been adapted and written by noted local artist Dorothy Paige-Turner.
