Chris Proctor comes to Charlotte’s Web

Looking for something special to get in the groove this weekend? Charlotte’s Web proudly presents Chris Proctor, in concert at 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 17, at the Mendelssohn Club, 415 N. Church St. Critics have called his guitar playing “breathtaking,” “haunting” and “rich.” They describe his compositions as “spectacular,” “elegant” and “exquisite.” With an acoustic fingerstyle guitar that will challenge your imagination, Chris Proctor draws on elements of folk, jazz, blues, classical and pop. “More like Kottke, he composes genuine guitar ‘tunes’ distinct from one another in their melodic symmetry, stylistically unique in their achieving a lovely suspension between tonal haiku and technical prose,” said Tower Pulse. “No fancy production tricks, just pure fingerpicking joy,” added Fingerstyle Guitar. Nine CDs on Flying Fish, Windham Hill and Sugarhouse Records, and his books, videos, magazine articles and endorsements all testify to Proctor’s status as one of the elite fingerstyle composers, arrangers and performers of the day. “His elegant tunes take a satisfying middle path between aimless arpeggios and displays of flash for flash’s sake… he plays with a warm, singing tone and clean technique which have kept him on the full-time music track for 12 years,” said Acoustic Guitar. His latest release, Under the Influence, will surely put you under his spell. He is known for his remarkable body of original works for 6- and 12-string guitar, his trademark counterpoint and inner voices, his technical wizardry and pioneering use of the E-bow. Now he interprets songs from across the musical spectrum, preserving the distinct flavor of each piece with his sense of taste, economy and proportion, while far surpassing its musical and emotional impact. Don’t miss the chance to see this exceptional performer. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Tickets are available at the Mendelssohn Club, 415 N.
