Christmas Tree Lane at Rockford College

Third annual event set to kick off at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9 at Grace Roper Lounge

The Grace Roper Lounge at the Burpee Center on the campus of Rockford College will be transformed into a winter wonderland of beautifully decorated Christmas trees for the Third Annual Christmas Tree Lane. The free event takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10.

Rockford College staff, faculty, students and community volunteers will decorate more than 40 Christmas trees. Several theme trees will be displayed, including an angel, Santa, patriotic and a snowman tree. Also on display will be trees decorated by the Red Hat Society and the Rebekahs and Odd Fellows Service Organization. A Mexican-themed tree will be decorated by Corina Rios-Jackson and her husband, Bob, who used the services at Hull House when she first came to Chicago as a child. Hull House founder Jane Addams is Rockford College’s most famous alumna, and Dec. 10 marks the 75th anniversary of her being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Christmas Tree Lane is a free event, open to the public. All are encouraged to attend and are welcome to bring a camera to capture the lovely scenes. Nonperishable food items will be collected for the Rockford Rescue Mission food drive. Accessible parking and a drop-off zone will be available at the front door of the Burpee Center, which is accessible.
