City of Gardens offers flower baskets again

The City of Gardens again is planning to beautify the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods with hanging baskets. The hanging flower baskets have become a wonderful source of enjoyment for residents and visitors alike. In the past three years, they have become a signature for our downtown summer scene, expanding from 18 experimental baskets in 1999 to more than 100 baskets in 2002. “The baskets enhance the natural beauty of our downtown area and help to create a sense of civic pride,” stated Ruth Miller, program director for the City of Gardens.

Baskets will be planted in themes of red, white and blue; deep cherry and lavender. Vines also will be incorporated into each of the baskets to create a more stunning effect.

Donations may be sent to the City of Gardens, Rockford Park District Foundation, 1401 N. Second St., Rockford, IL 61107. Information: 987-1689.
