City completes purchase of Ingersoll Building

The City of Rockford today announced it has closed on the purchase of 4.6 acres of riverfront property formerly owned by Ingersoll International.

The sale was completed for the proposed purchase price of $1.95 million.

Rockford Mayor Doug Scott said, “I’m thrilled we were able to complete this deal. The MetroCentre Authority is doing a study on its needs for flat exhibition space. I’m sure this property will be a great addition to our downtown development plans.”

Under the terms of the sale, Ingersoll will complete any needed environmental work and continue to remove its equipment now being stored on the property.

The Rockford City Council recently approved plans to sell bonds to purchase both the Ingersoll property and the Metz Bakery block near Cedar and Winnebago streets.

Mayor appoints new council committees

Mayor Doug Scott has appointed new chairmen for the three standing committees of the Rockford City Council.

Alderman Linda McNeely has been named chairman of the Finance and Personnel Committee. Alderman Nancy Johnson will serve as chair of the Codes and Regulations Committee. Alderman Patrick Curran will continue as chairman of the Planning and Development Committee.

In addition to the new chairmen, Mayor Scott is also making some changes in the makeup of each committee.

Council committees are appointed each year by the mayor.

Appointments to City Council committees and boards are effective beginning the week of June 4, 2002.
