Clarkes announce new gallery look at Winnebago County Fair

Superintendents of the Winnebago County Fair Photography Exhibition and Competition, Jeff and Sallie Clarke, announce the new “gallery look” for the exhibition.

“We have more boards to hang photographs and more gallery lighting,” Jeff Clarke said, “and we are looking for some red carpeting.”

“We’ve always done everything we could to give both the photographers and the people who visit the exhibition the red carpet treatment,” said Sallie Clarke, “and this could be the year that our idea for a complete gallery look becomes reality.”

More than $750 in prize monies will be awarded to photography ribbon winners at the 80th Winnebago County Fair, August 14-19.

There are nine categories for entry: landscapes/cityscapes, animals, portraits (individual), portraits (group), architecture, close-up, sports, still life and special effects.

“We especially encourage photographers to enter the sports and special effects categories. There seem to be fewer entries and a greater opportunity for winning ribbons,” said Jeff Clarke.

Beginning the second day of the fair, viewers may vote for a “People’s Choice” photograph, for which a ribbon and $25 is awarded.

“We are making ourselves available to answer any questions about entering the exhibition,” said Sallie. “Photographers can phone us at 815/239-1202 or e-mail:”

Fair books will soon be mailed out to those who have previously entered the exhibition. They will also be available at Camera Craft at Edgebrook Center in Rockford and Freeport Photo at 944 W. Galena in Freeport.
