Coaching clinic set for Aug. 19 at Quality Suites

How many times have you sat in the stands of a high school sporting event and thought to yourself, “I can coach better than that!”? I’ve actually even heard some of you make that bold proclamation out loud.

If the only thing preventing you from out-coaching that person you are criticizing is you are not a teacher or faculty member at a school, now you don’t have to be. Thanks to the American Sports Education Program (ASEP), non-faculty members can now become certified to coach middle or high school athletics.

The time has arrived for you to put your money where your mouth is. The ASEP will hold a coaching clinic in Rockford Sunday, Aug. 19. The clinic will run from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Quality Suites. The cost for the clinic is $260 and includes lunch. The Illinois High School Association requires this program for all non-faculty members wishing to become coaches.

Attendees will be given take-home tests to complete following the course. The tests then must be mailed in and graded prior to receiving certification. To register for this clinic or to obtain more information, contact Jeff Kyle at (217) 586-4799 or
