Coffee Talks presents film: Super Size Me

Rockford Peace & Justice will host a film showing at the next Coffee Talk, Monday, April 4, 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockford, 4848 Turner St.

Super Size Me, an Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary, is a satirical jab in the stomach, over-stuffed with fat and facts about the billion-dollar industry besieged by doctors, lawyers and nutritionists alike. “Would you like fries with that?” will never sound the same!

For the movie, Director Morgan Spurlock ate three full meals a day at McDonald’s and cut down his exercise program to the minimum practiced by the average American. The 30-day binge poisoned Spurlock’s liver, drove up his cholesterol by 40 percent and his weight by 24 pounds.

A short discussion at the end of the film will be led by area vegetarians.

Coffee Talks are free and open to the public and presented every Monday evening, 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockford, 4848 Turner St.
