Come to the Tuesday Night Café Cabaret!

By

You are invited to the “Tuesday Night Café Cabaret,” a Young American Theater production, at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 17, at New American Theater, 118 N. Main St., Rockford.

In 1976, the Rockford school system was forced to cut all extra-curricular activities—including school plays, due to budget constraints. New American Theater believed that this kind of creative outlet was fundamental to high school education, and thus Young American Theater was born. Eventually, school plays were added back to the budget, but the response to YAT was so strong that it continued, and NAT’s commitment to challenging young minds and providing a creative outlet has only become stronger.

Over the years, YAT graduates have gone on to become lawyers, dental hygienists, teachers, as well as top professional writers, directors and actors. Regardless of what career paths these graduates choose to pursue, the lessons of collaboration, creative problem solving, communication, and teamwork learned through YAT surely helped them find success.

Young American Theater (YAT) is a youth theater troupe consisting of high school students from all over the Rock River Valley. Working together with professional staff at NAT, students learn about theater first hand through workshops and productions. Today, YAT is a 28-member-strong organization and is working on a talent showcase called “Tuesday Night Café Cabaret.”

Come see the sights and sounds of what YAT does best—entertain! You’ll hear comedy, tragedy, singing and maybe see a little dancing. Join YAT for this epic celebration in the New American Theater SecondStage. Tickets are $5. To reserve tickets, call 963-9454, ext. 15.
