Conference focuses on nurse burnout

The Illinois Nurses Association 3rd District and the Nurses Expo Planning Committee will host a Conference for Nurses and Caregivers March 29 and 30 at Giovanni’s in Rockford. Hours will be 6-9 p.m., Thursday and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday. Expo hosts an average attendance of 300-400 nurses from Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. Nurses are invited to attend from all areas of specialty. This event is the largest annual gathering targeted at nurses in our specific region.

Illinois Nurses Association 3rd District will give out highly recognized awards at 7 p.m., March 29, to local nurses who have been nominated. Distinguished Advocate for Nursing Award is given to an individual group that has promoted nurses or nursing. The Excellence in Nursing Award is given to a nominee who lives specifically in local counties that demonstrate high integrity in their profession. Celebrate our local nurse heroes for the work they do each day to save lives and care for others. Nurses today struggle to keep up in a complicated health care world. Nurses have to be able to handle a variety of issues, but the patient is the most important part of their care. Saving nurses, saves lives.

The Thursday evening speaker will be Suzanne Vaughn, author of Rx for a New You, Potholes and Parachutes: Stories of Hope and Healing for Getting Up, Getting Out and Landing Safely. She will focus on preventing burnout. Friday’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Judith Briles, author of more than 20 books. She will focus on “Creating Confidence out of Chaos.”

To make reservations, call Expo at (815) 229-1636. Cost of the event is $50 for Thursday, $95 for Friday, or $135 for both days.
