Join the American Lung Association of Illinois, along with area lung health specialists, for the Second Annual Test Your LungsKnow Your Numbers supervised COPD mall walk. The event will be at CherryVale Mall in Cherry Valley Thursday, June 8, with registration in Center Court starting at 5:30 p.m. The supervised walk will take place from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a presentation by Bharati Roy, M.D., a pulmonologist affiliated with Rockford Health System.
This event is free and not a fund-raiser. People seeking information about chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, along with the treatment options, will be the focus of the event. Smokers of all ages are also encouraged to attend and sign up for the spirometry, which is lung function testing. Participants will be able to interface with local trained professionals from all three major health systems and the COPD Committee of the Rockford Health Council.
COPD is the fourth-leading cause of death in the United States. More than half of all smokers experience at least one symptom of COPD a minimum of once a week, which becomes more pronounced in people older than 40. Individuals who experience a chronic cough, fatigue upon exertion, have frequent respiratory infections, or have productive morning cough are candidates for COPD.
To register or for further information, contact the local Lung Association office at (815) 962-6412, or the Lung Helpline at 1-800-548-8252.
