County Board chairman was wrong about Carlson Roofing

Business remains open, despite Scott Christiansen’s claim that the company had closed its doors

Carlson Roofing is open for business. In last week’s article “County chairman says no conflict of interest,” The Rock River Times reported that Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen (R) said Carlson Roofing went out of business. Christiansen was mistaken, and The Rock River Times did not verify his assertion before publication.

The Rock River Times made the correction to the Web version of the article and also announced the mistake on WNTA-1330 radio on Oct. 20. The Rock River Times regrets the error.

Asked during an Oct. 22 follow-up interview why he made that comment, Christiansen said “that was my best knowledge” at the time. Carlson Roofing changed owners two years agoand has not been closed for one day. Carlson Roofing remains a successful business.

Dan Young is the owner of Carlson Roofing, and he is a respected member of the business community. He worked for Carlson Roofing for 23 years before purchasing the business from Larry Carlson two years ago. Carlson Roofing is at 828 21st St., 397-1880, specializing in commercial and industrial roofing.

As recently as Oct. 12, Carlson Roofing and Christiansen Inc., competed for work to repair flashing at the Rock County Correctional Facility in Janesville, Wis.
