Court order closing motels extended

The City of Rockford has received a 10-day extension of the temporary restraining order closing two 11th Street motels.

The city obtained the court order closing the Rockford Motel, 3851 11th St., and the Six Penny Motel, 4205 11th St., October 25 from Associate Judge Angus More.

The city sought the order closing the motels under the Drug Forfeiture Nuisance Statute, arguing illegal drugs were found repeatedly at the two establishments.

The city Building and Fire departments, along with the Winnebago County Dept. of Public Health, later condemned the two motels citing fire, building and sanitation code violations.

A hearing on the city’s motion for a permanent injunction closing the motels for one year is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 12.
