Crew and Brew brings 'eclectic' mix to Octane Interlounge

People milled about swilling cocktails, sharing trade secrets, and waiting for the show to commence at Octane Interlounge March 13. The guest list was eclectic, from businessmen to male models, and they were all there for the same reason.

American Crew, a Denver-based male grooming product supplier, was in town to showcase a plethora of men’s haircuts for local salon owners and hairdressers to use as inspiration. It was part social event and part educational experience for local beauticians.

Bonnie Almanza, owner of Emporium II in downtown Rockford, said: “As a hair stylist, you’ve got to keep up with the trends. That way, you can offer your customer anything.” Almanza and her colleagues enjoyed live demonstrations by representatives from American Crew for two hours (6-8 p.m.). Two stylists created innovative cuts on nine male models—looks geared toward the modern professional male. Some were bold and sleek, while others were casual and stylish. The different creations covered a spectrum of appropriate looks.

The event was hosted by Octane Interlounge, The Fuzz Salon, and Smiles Distributors of Madison, Wis. Kathy Klein of Smiles Distributors predicts another similar event in September, only bigger.

“Maybe we can have a band and a set up outdoors,” Klein smiled as she gazed around at the bustling crowd.
