CROP Hunger Walk rally Sept. 12

It’s time to rally for the next CROP Hunger Walk!

The CROP Hunger Walk, a project of Church World Service, has been walking since 1985 here in Rockford. Last year was the best ever—raising a little more than $25,000 to help feed people overseas and here in northern Illinois. This year’s goal is $30,000, and everyone is invited to help. So far, 12 congregations have signed up for the Rockford walk.

The recruiters’ and walkers’ rally will be held at 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 12, at Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main St., upstairs on the second floor. Local organizers for the CROP Walk will be distributing materials such as sponsor records, videos, posters, fliers and balloons. Attendees will learn how to put these materials to good use.

Seventy-five percent of the funds raised goes to world hunger relief, and 25 percent goes to food pantries and soup kitchens here in Rockford.

People from congregations, schools and corporations, and all interested individuals, are encouraged to try to recruit walkers for the 2004 Hunger Walk. This year’s Walk is set for Sunday, Oct. 17, which allows plenty of lead time for those organizations that need to plan ahead.
