Crusader Clinic’s ‘Open Door’ serves all people in need

For more than 30 years, Crusader Clinic has been serving the Rockford area with quality health care for all people in need. The clinic provides health services for all people, no matter their culture, financial, social or medical condition. The clinic promotes good health and provides a variety of services, while encouraging self-reliance among the individuals and families that visit the clinic. We understand the need for adequate health care for all individuals in our local community as well as our global community.

We would like to expand our services to those living in developing and Third World countries. As of Dec. 1, Crusader Clinic has linked with the Open Door Crisis Center in Pinetown, South Africa. Our goal is to provide support and supplies to the clients and staff at the Open Door Crisis Center. We have launched two campaigns to aid and support individuals, families, and communities in South Africa: Students Without Borders and Clients Without Borders. These two campaigns will be linking the Rockford community to South Africa, in our attempt to expand humanitarian services. This connection will provide added assistance to those living in South Africa.

The Open Door Crisis Center shares many of the same goals as Crusader Clinic. Their goal is to provide human services to all who are in need. They offer a variety of services to an extremely vulnerable population. The center does not turn down clients based on their cultural background, financial standing, religious or spiritual belief, or geographic location. If an individual needs support those supports, will be provided. The center specializes in community outreach, individual and family counseling, AIDs-Care, HIV/AIDS education, domestic violence, and possesses a 24-hour victim empowerment program.

The Open Door Crisis Center opened its doors to South Africa in 1998. In roughly five years, they have serviced more than 50,000 individuals. On average, the center serves 12,000 different clients per year. They provide services to their local community as well as individuals living throughout South Africa.

Crusader Clinic is asking for the materials and/or financial support from the local community to aid the success of these two campaigns. Your support will enable students, clients, staff and the Rockford community to expand care to those individuals, families, and communities in urgent need for assistance.

Donations can be sent to or dropped off at Crusader Clinic on West State Street. Arrangements can also be made for staff to pick up materials, if necessary. Checks should be made payable to Crusader Clinic- Living With HIV/AIDS Program.
