Dan Whitaker and The Shinebenders at Mary’s Place

Country artist Dan Whitaker returns to Rockford for a fifth time Friday, Jan. 19, for a show at Mary’s Place.

Supporting the group’s latest CD, Shinebender, Whitaker and company have been touring the Midwest for the past three years, including shows at Arlington Park and The Chicago Music Festival.

Shinebender, recorded at Rax Trax in Chicago, is a 14-song collection, nine of which are originals written by Whitaker. The CD also includes a snazzy cover of Bob Dylan’s “Nashville Skyline Rag,” and will soon be available at Amazon.com and iTunes, among other online downloading sites. Other Dan Whitaker CDs include Your Final Ride, Movin’ On With You and Jordan and Dan Play Old Time.

In addition to fronting The Shinebenders, Dan Whitaker provides guitar work for The Great Plains Gypsies and Jay Harris’ Whiskeyhorse. He’s also played with June Bug Massacre.

Dan Whitaker and The Shinebenders is: Dan Whitaker, (guitar, vocals, banjo, mandolin, harmonica and piano), Floyd Acres (harmony vocals), Chase Jackson (drums), Trip Kimball (organ, harmony vocals, guitar and trumpet), Earl Powers (bass), and Red Winston (pedal steel).
