Local racing favorite and Indy Racing League phenom Danica Patrick was unable to finish the 44th running of the Rolex 24-hour sports car endurance race Jan. 28 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Engine failure, caused by overheating and a blown head gasket, forced the Pontiac Crawford sports car to leave the track.

Patrick was part of a four-member team composed of Allan McNish, Jan Lammers (both former Formula One drivers) and the recently retired NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace. The team had reached as high as third place during the 10th hour of the race before the engine gave way.
