Dark Star sculpture dedication April 1

The African-American Task Force Rockford Chapter Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network, in collaboration with Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC), will dedicate “Dark Star” at 10 a.m., Friday, April 1 at a press conference and unveiling ceremony at Muldoon Grove on the grounds of Crusader Clinic, 1200 W. State St., Rockford.

Rockford sculptor H. Edward Riddle designed and created “Dark Star”—a metal sculpture joining six separate pieces of metal forming five points symbolizing the Gift of Hope given through organ, tissue, blood, marrow and cornea donation.

“Dark Star” represents the light of hope, the darkness of loss and the dream, in honor, memory and celebration. “Dark Star” will stand within the “healing garden of Muldoon Grove,” increasing awareness of the critical need for donation, imploring the community to get the facts and make the decision to donate.

A reception will follow the dedication ceremony. More info: contact Julie Tilbury at 543-6576 or Beverly Edwards 494-5579.
