Dave Lippman performs at Minglewood

Charlotte’s Web offers a different type of show with a political flavor this weekend. Dave Lippman, a/k/a George Shrub, “the world’s only singing CIA agent,” will be performing at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25 at Minglewood, 317 W. Jefferson St., Rockford. Satirical songster Lippman takes to the road in his second millennium of musical satire, with the world’s only known singing CIA agent, George Shrub, in hot pursuit. Current victims of his parody include the Faith-Based Missile Shields, Global Warnings, Sweatshops, the Information Towaway Lane, Sport Futility Vehicles, and of course, Wal-Mart. Get ready for high-end pop rewrites and some very wise cracks. Lippman’s songs include such titles as “I Hate Wal-Mart,” “The Stocks They Are Exchangin’,” and “Battle Him in Public.” “God, that man can talk! What a great writer!” said Utah Phillips. This show is a benefit for Rockford Peace & Justice Action Committee, and the cost is $5. Tickets are available at the door and at Rockford Area Arts Council, 713 E. State St., 963-6765; The Postal Shoppe, Edgebrook Center, 397-7301; and Tin Whistle, N. Main & Auburn, 963-0270; or by mail with check and SASE, 10928 N. Main, Rockton, IL 61072.
