David Stocker at JustGoods March 24

Celebrate the spring equinox with David Stocker and Friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, March 24 at JustGoods Fair Trade Store, 201 Seventh St.

The gathering will feature an informal drumming circle and a potluck dinner. Stocker will share songs, stories and unusual instruments.

Those attending are encouraged to bring their own drums and/or rhythm instruments, although a few extras will be available. For more information, contact Dori Kearney at the store at 815-965-8903. Free will donations will be taken.

Stocker is a teacher and a peace activist. He has toured with the music ensemble One Drum, has been an artist in residence for the Illinois Arts Council for nearly a decade and has recently completed a commission for the Field Museum to replicate a 2,000-year-old Native American flute.

The next event after the spring equinox will be a summer family gathering July 20 featuring young jazz musicians from Stocker’s Fifth Annual Jazz Jamm Camp. For more about the July 9-20 camp for ages 7-17, call 815-519-7599.
