Dec. 18-22 ‘Five Nights of Christmas’ to benefit downtown arts groups

Starting Monday, Dec. 18, from 5 to 10 p.m., eight downtown Rockford shops and restaurants will present “Five Nights of Christmas: Shopping for the Arts.” The shopping and dining event, which goes through Friday, Dec. 22, makes holiday shopping fun while also serving as a fund-raiser for five arts organizations with ties to downtown Rockford.

Participating merchants are offering specially selected items or gift certificates with a percentage of the proceeds benefiting Rockford Art Museum, New American Theater, Rockford Dance Company, Friends of the Coronado and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra.

Tuesday night, Dec. 19, students from the Music Academy at Rockford College performed in the Kortman Gallery, 107 N. Main St., and at Chocolat by Daniel, 211 E. State St. The Kortman Gallery Bar, open each of the “Five Nights of Christmas” promotion, will also host a book signing Wednesday night featuring Rockford author John Lundin’s latest book, Master Inventor, the Howard Colman story. Thursday night, hear and see the premiere of the latest ambient visual and audio DVD Ambiessence from Rockford composer, pianist and videographer Curt Johnsen.

Friday night, Dec. 22, Holland Zander, John Bishoff and Jinger Christal will sign their latest CD, Fear & Desire, upstairs at the Kortman Gallery.

On all five nights at all locations, the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future will be making surprise appearances, along with several elves from Santa’s North Pole headquarters. Kortman Center for Design; Krypto Music Lounge; Octane; Paragon On State; and Runner’s Image.
