Democrats are their own worst enemy

Democrats are their own worst enemy

By I can’t believe how stupid the Democrats are when it comes to Winnebago County government. We just cannot figure out how to empower ourselves even when we are the minority. There are exactly eight Democrats on the county board. If the Democrats don’t get out there and help the incumbents, it looks like there will be fewer Democrats on the board. The Democratic Party is a mess right now, and I can see why. Democrats have a chairman (Willie Bell) who can’t see past the 5th Ward. He continues to play ward politics. Well, the 5th Ward might bring in the votes for the local elections, but Washington, D.C. wants more than the 5th Ward votes.

Polly Berg and Phil Johnson will need as many votes as possible to win their re-election. I hope everyone in their districts will get out and vote for these two Democrats. I suppose you are wondering if I am supporting Pearl Hawks. NO. Pearl doesn’t speak to me because I supported Cheryl Box to represent District 6. Pearl appears to listen to people whom she believes have influence. Representation is all about people–black, white and brown. Educated, uneducated, rich or poor, and I just don’t believe Pearl does this. I am supporting Mark Philpot, and I believe he will listen to all the residents in District 6. He is a good man and very intelligent. I still don’t know Reggie Taylor (District 12), and God knows I haven’t seen him. He sort of reminds me of Linda McNeely [Dem. alderman-13th Ward]. No one knew where she was, and rumor had it she lived in Bensenville. Very seldom could people find her at her home. I think she still lives with her parents. I’m pretty sure Taylor lives in Rockford. He used to work at the Rockford Housing Authority, but I think he works somewhere else now. It might be Beloit; I’ll know tomorrow. I have to go there for some business. Carol and Vic should bring him back to the county board meetings. Maybe he’d better start practicing to come alone. I think it’s time to cut the cord from MA BELL!!!!

The Democrats have a new organization. It’s called the NEW Democrats. What are NEW Democrats? I hope they are not closet Republicans. I really have no idea. It appears they are supposed to be 18- to 40-year-old Democrats. Well, I read the invitation they sent out for this Sunday’s dinner. (I hear they are giving away FREE tickets–you know what that means), and most of the MEN on the program were over 40. I think it was just another way to start another boys’ club in the party. God knows we don’t need to start another Democratic organization. I did not see one of those NEW Democrats at the Illinois Democratic Women’s Rally. They got little, if any, support from the so-called men of inclusion. I would suggest Democrats build on the organizations they already have. Rockford has always been a cliquing town–ever since I’ve lived here. If you never attended Guilford, West, Auburn or East High schools, you are an outsider. The natives’ motto is: “This is the way we have always done it.” I have to laugh sometimes because I know my big mouth gets me in so much trouble. I sometimes say things just to get the natives agitated. At least, they have to think about what they are doing for a little while. I sometimes wonder what Democrats did in this town before there was a union.

Well, the election is Tuesday, and I will be glad when it is over. I am a nervous wreck. I eat, sleep and groan over the latest CNN poll. I want Gore to win, and I’m sure most of you know that I think black Americans will suffer if George W. Bush is elected. It is so hard for me to accept the fact that people will vote for a “personality” more than “ability.” I have seen it happen here in Rockford, so I really should not be surprised. I just hope and pray that this time, blacks get out and vote. I can assure you this vote WILL count!!!!

On to another subject–the Tort Fund. Well, I guess Yogi was right. It’s not over until the fat lady sings! I just hope some of us fat ladies will start warming up our voices. I can’t believe everyone wants to get along NOW!!! If it was not so pathetic, I would get mad. Yes, we should try to get along, but why? So we can keep taxes down? Once again,

everyone is CLAIMING they are concerned about the education of our children. Please, give me a break. This is something we all knew was coming. It reminds me of a friend I had who was a millionaire. When she found out her husband was not doing right, she wanted to divorce him. She separated and got a pretty decent check each month. Then she finally saw the other woman. He was guilty as sin, but he never admitted it. Now she wanted to destroy him. The LAWYER worked out a perfect plan with the scorned wife. They were going to make him pay. So he paid, and he paid, and he paid. Finally, he decided to fight back, and he got a lawyer. But the lawyers were the only people that seemed to be happy with this drama. Finally, he had no more money to pay anyone, including his ex-wife. He ended up sick and dying. She ended up poor and lonely. The lawyers became rich.

You know, I can sort of understand why loyal Democrats have left the Democratic Party. It is one big boys’ club. You know, when Willie Bell became chairman, I thought things would change. I want to kick myself for supporting him. Well, Willie Bell is just as bad as Doug Aurand, because I know he has been told why it is so important for him to practice inclusion. He also appears to not understand that being the chairman of the Democratic Central Committee is not just about the 5th Ward. Poor Willie is lost when he gets out of the 5th Ward. Poor Willie, he depends on the unions so much, he doesn’t seem to think straight. He has to keep the Democratic office open not to feel like a complete failure. He will do whatever it takes to APPEAR to be leading the party. It seems like Doug Aurand and his little band of troubadours go behind closed doors and sing about how the party is going down the drain, since Doug left. We all know why this party is almost at the bottom of the barrel. It is because of MR. AURAND, with the help of Willie Bell. Well, we know that this county is going to have a hard time getting Democrats to vote for Gore. It appears the Winnebago County Democratic Party has more closet Republicans than a dog has fleas. That’s okay–this might be my last effort as a Democrat, but I’m going to do everything possible to help get Vice President Gore elected to PRESIDENT GORE.

I don’t know how many of you were able to attend the Illinois Democratic Women’s Rally–but the women that organized the event did a great job at what I would assume was a short notice. It was really great to see the Hon. Dawn Clark Netsch. Women should really try and make that a viable organization throughout the state. It’s time we run more qualified women for elected positions.

We are really becoming shadows of the MEN in this party.
