Dennis Johnson sings Christmas music

Dennis Johnson (the singer, not the recent mayoral candidate) has a new CD out for the holidays. Called Christmas in Chicago, it features “the beauty and majesty of Christmas as Johnson’s exquisite voice and crisp, clear sounds absolutely take your breath away,” says Vickie Dombrowski, music director, writer and co-producer of many hits of her own. “It’s always a pleasure to work with such a professional musician, and I’m fortunate to have been included on Dennis’s current album,” she added.

Johnson’s lilting melodies and “big band” sound have often been compared to Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick, Jr. and other jazz and big band persona. He has been quoted as saying, “It is with great joy that I dedicate this CD to my wife, Kimberly, and my children, Sarah, Ben and Ian, whom I love dearly and who have shown me such support and love. And I thank God for this wonderful gift he has given me.”

Johnson has performed in dozens of local productions including: NIU’s concert production, “La Parisian”; Clock Tower Resort Productions; Concert in the Park as one of “The Three Toners” with the Rockford Symphony; Starlight Theatre; Magic Monday; and several Mendelssohn Club productions. He will also appear with the Mendelssohn Chorale in “Viva Italiano and Musicals II” and “Movie Memories” in May, 2002.

The CD Christmas in Chicago is available at Media Play, 6455 E. State St., at $10 each, or at Janicke’s Note by Note, 221 E. State St., or from his web page at
