Even though temperatures in our area have been more suited to ice fishing recently, its never too early to start thinking about hitting the open waters and landing the big one this spring. To help you do just that, the Rock Valley Anglers have invited Denny Sands from Lake Shabbona to speak at their next monthly meeting.
Sands will be at the Hoffman House Restaurant inside the Holiday Inn at East State Street and Bell School Road Wednesday, Feb. 14. He is expected to give some excellent tips about when and where to catch them at Lake Shabbona.
His presentation will begin at 7 p.m. Rock Valley Angler members are admitted free, and non-members will be charged $5. Non-members who attend the presentation are able to apply the $5 admission fee toward the cost of their membership.
The group is an all-species fishing club, which meets at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. The club has more than 80 members, and is looking for others interested in looking to improve their fishing skills.
In addition to a variety of guest speakers scheduled in the upcoming months, they also have several contests planned throughout the spring and summer, including a fish-of-the-month award to be given at each meeting. For more information about the club, call their public relations director, David Johnson, at (815) 654-7790.
