Details for Waltrip visit

More details were made available last week for Michael Waltrip’s July 8 appearance at Rockford Speedway (reported here Feb. 11 and even earlier than that by WTVO-TV-17).

Tickets already are on sale—$100 for a pre-race Meet & Greet in Forest Hills Lodge (only 200 tickets will be sold), and $20 for the racing program of late models, American Short Trackers and roadrunners. Waltrip, two-time Daytona 500 winner, won’t race, but will be at the track.

He’ll drop the green flag on the first race, do some commentary on the opening races, and one lucky fan will win a ride around the track with him. His NAPA show car and hauler will be on display.

One of the prize giveaways will be a ride around the track with Waltrip. Other prizes will be a NAPA/Waltrip battery-powered replica car and a $5,000 travel voucher for a destination of choice. Chances for the prizes will be included with tickets.

Called Racin’ for Kids, the whole night will be a benefit for Easter Seals Children’s Development Center serving northwest Illinois. Track CEO Jody Deery said the gate that night will go to Easter Seals. “We’ve had fundraisers before, but this will probably be one of the largest we will have,” she said. “This has the chance to be the largest fundraiser we have ever done,” said Steve Guedet of Easter Seals.

NAPA is Waltrip’s NASCAR Nextel Cup sponsor and NAPA Auto Parts locally will be the presenting sponsor. Joe Hansberry’s Motor Parts & Equipment Corp., which owns 12 NAPA stores in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, will play a key role. Waltrip makes only 12 such appearances a year.

Tickets can be purchased through the Speedway at (815) 633-1500 or by going to
