Dietetics Association celebrates National Nutrition Month®

Rock River Valley Dietetics Association is a membership of talented and educated registered dietitians. We have a mission to provide valid nutrition information to the community. March is known as National Nutrition Month®, it has been designed to show the importance of making good informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. The theme for National Nutrition Month® 2004 is “Eat Smart, Stay Healthy.”

Healthy eating helps you get the most out of life. A healthy lifestyle is the key to looking good, feeling great and being your best at work and play. It all starts with a healthy eating plan.

Maintain a healthy weight

Individual needs and preferences determine your personal food choices. Match your food choices to your lifestyle and individual requirements, choosing enough to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

Actively pursue variety. Expand your range of choices and explore new tastes. Eating a wide variety of foods not only promotes optimal nutrition, it also provides the pleasurable aspects of eating.

Variety and moderation

Healthy eating doesn’t mean feeling deprived or guilty. Eat smaller portions of your favorite foods if they are not healthy.

Develop a personal fitness plan that fits your lifestyle. The key is to find a variety of activities you enjoy. Aim for some type of activity every day. There are many health benefits to having a regular exercise routine. You don’t need expensive equipment or complicated fitness programs. A simple daily walk could increase your ability to achieve a healthier lifestyle.
