Disconnected from utility? Call this number!

The City of Rockford Human Services Department Energy Division has announced that effective immediately, all households disconnected from a heat-related utility and seeking assistance from the Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) must call (815) 987-5711 to schedule their appointment.

Callers will be given an appointment date and time and directed how to confirm their status with the program. Walk-in appointments will no longer be available. The Department has changed the application procedure avoid large crowds and to improve overall customer service.

The Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, is a state and federally-funded effort to assist the elderly, disabled and other income-eligible residents in paying their winter heating bills and in restoring a disconnected utility service. In 2003, more than 8,000 households were assisted in Winnebago and Boone counties. For more information, call the LIHEAP info line at (815) 987-5501.
