Divas for a Cure, a group of women who share a common love for motorcycling and living the life to the fullest, are on a mission to inform women about breast cancer. ( http://www.divasforacure.org)
The Divas are dedicated to promoting early detection, education, screenings and supporting cancer research. July 23, the women embarked on a 23-day Divas Ride for A Cure, a 7,800-mile, cross-country ride, traveling coast to coast from San Francisco to Florida and then to New York and back. Along the way, they will make numerous stops at Harley-Davidson dealerships and other locations to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
Friday, Aug. 11, the Divas will be in Rockford from noon-3 p.m. at the Kegel Motorcycle Company (7125 Harrison Ave.).
Proceeds from Divas Ride for A Cure will be dedicated to breast cancer research, facilitating community health fairs for mobile breast examinations, producing cancer educational materials and wig donations to women enduring chemotherapy. The services are earmarked primarily for women who dont ordinarily seek or receive medical attention due to socioeconomic conditions.
The Rockford event will kick off with the presentation of a proclamation from Mayor Lawrence J. Morrissey and the City of Rockford being presented to the Divas by Ald. Daniel P. Conness. SwedishAmerican Center for Women will also be at the event providing information to women about breast cancer awareness.
The event will feature raffles and prize drawings for items and services donated by local business including Saturn of Rockford, Peak Fitness, Grace Design, Francescos, Hilander, and many more.
This event is open and free to the public.
