State Rep. Chuck Jefferson (D-Rockford) has requested donations for his annual toy distribution drive scheduled to begin this week.
The holidays are a time for us to rejoice and give thanks for what is important in our lives, said Jefferson. Unfortunately, some children dont have a lot to be thankful for. Our community thrives because we take care of each other, and if we were all willing to dig a little deeper, no child would be forced to be deprived this holiday season.
Since taking office, Jefferson has collected and distributed toys to needy families and their children during the holidays. Toys are donated by Project First Rate, the Marine Corps, General Dollar and local residents. Jefferson will be accepting donations through Thursday, Dec. 22 at his constituent service office at the Zeke Giorgi Center, 200 S. Wyman, Suite 314 in downtown Rockford.
I encourage those who are able to join in the spirit of the season and make a donation, said Jefferson. Helping, even in a small way such as this, could make a big difference in a childs holiday.
Families who qualify for state-subsidized heating assistance also qualify to receive free toys for their children through Jeffersons office. Toys are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, and eligible recipients must present a birth certificate or Social Security card for each child they wish to claim.
For more information about giving or receiving donations, please contact Jefferson at (815) 987-7433.
