Zion Development Corporation, a faith-based nonprofit organization focused on renovation in the Mid-Town District, will host the Fifth Annual Doors of Rockford Art Show and Auction from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Burpee Museum of Natural History, 737 N. Main St.
The event features an impressive collection of 36 new paintings by area artists that use as their subjects actual doors and doorways from well-known landmarks to ordinary residences in Rockford. This years theme is Rockford in Bloom. Artists participating in this years event include Ingrid Neuhofer Dohm, Ken Biddle, Jeanne Coe and Judy Moyer, along with many other talented artists. The Doors of Rockford Art Show and Auction is now recognized as one of the finest art venues in the region. Live music from the Dan Voll Latin Jazz Trio and a delicious array of hors doeuvres will give those who attend an evening rich in sights, sounds and flavors.
The Doors of Rockford artworks was juried by Robert McCauley, head of the Art Department at Rockford College. The judge has selected seven paintings to receive Awards of Merit and one to receive the National City Award of Excellence. New this year, the winner of the National City Award of Excellence will also receive a $750 cash prize. All eight juried winners will have their artwork featured on handsome note cards and posters available for purchase at the event and afterwards. Attendees at the event will vote to select one painting to receive the Peoples Choice Award, which also carries with it a cash prize of $250 from the Rockford Area Arts Council.
All funds raised at the Doors of Rockford Art Show and Auction will go to Zion Development Corporation to help operate its many projects and programs benefiting the people who live, work and worship in the Mid-Town District. Local artists are offered an exciting venue to showcase their talents and are guaranteed by Patron Sponsors a minimum cash payment for their art and, in some cases, a percentage of its auction price. All paintings are initially priced at $50. Some final auction prices are expected to exceed $500. The Doors of Rockford Art Show and Auction offers Rockford residents the opportunity to view and purchase wonderful, original works of art that feature unique and pride-inspiring images of the community. Admission at the event is $15.
