‘Down & Dirty’ mud volleyball tourney July 15

If you’ve never been to a mud volleyball tournament, Saturday, July 15, you have a chance to find out what you’ve been missing.

Go to Le-Win Jaycees’ Mud Volleyball 2006 “21 Years & Legal Down & Dirty.” It’s a double-elimination showdown starting at 8 a.m. at Double G Stables (1.25 miles north of Lena on Lake Road). This event is handicap accessible.

“It’s absolutely the most fun you can pack into a single day where it’s as much fun to watch as it is to play,” said Le-Win Jaycees President Dan Shoaf.

Year after year, about 90 teams participate. There is no limit to the number on a team, but there’s a limit of eight players at a time on a court—two must be female. The first team to be ahead by 11 minutes or to reach 11 points (ahead by two) wins.

DJ Sound Solutions will keep the music coming, while the Jaycees and area food vendors (Warren-Stockton girls’ track team and A Taste of Country) will serve up the rest! Miller products and Red Bull will be available in the beer tent, and Pepsi products will be on hand. All proceeds sponsor community projects, events and scholarships.

To play, you must be 21 and ready to slog in deep mud. Wear something disposable.

To register, call April at 369-4195. Entry fee is $100 per team to compete for cash and other prizes; courts and prizes are sponsored by area businesses.
