Durand invites chili lovers, motorcyclists

DURAND—The public will choose the winning chili chef during Durand’s “Third Annual Biker Bash & Chili Shoot Out” Saturday, Sept. 17. Event runs 1-5 p.m., rain or shine.

“Each person sampling the chili will be given a ticket,” said Carol Myers, one of the event’s organizers. “They then drop the ticket into the bucket of the chef whose fare they like most. That way, the public decides the winner.”

All chili entries will be cooked on site. In addition, more than 150 motorcycles are expected to be on display with judging and prizes in seven categories beginning at 3 p.m.

To entertain visitors, the Pistol Pete band will be playing 2-6 p.m., and U.S. Radio 7:30-11:30 p.m.

Anyone wishing to compete in the chili contest or display a motorcycle is invited. Deadline for chili registration is Sept. 6. Call 815-248-4159 for registration information.

Motorcycle registration is in Durand 1-2:30 p.m. the day of the event.

All benefits from the event go to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Durand is on Illinois Rt. 70 near the intersection of Illinois Rt. 75.

Info: 815/248-3166.
