During holiday season, remember nursing home residents

During this holiday season of giving, the elderly and infirm are sometimes overlooked, particularly those in nursing homes. Some of the residents have few family or friends who visit, so this can be a particularly painful time of year for them. The staff at Amberwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center are planning a Christmas party for the residents on Friday, Dec. 23. Residents will be served a special meal, and all will receive Christmas presents at that time.

The staff has set up a Giving Tree in the lobby of Amberwood with envelopes that contain names of each of the residents and their wish list for Christmas. If anyone would like to contribute, stop by and pick a name from the tree. Amberwood is across the street from Rockford Memorial Hospital at 2313 N. Rockton Ave.

Also, the following items would be greatly appreciated: women’s and men’s pajamas, socks, underwear, robes, slipper socks and T-shirts (all sizes including plus sizes); postage stamps; stationery; pen sets; sugar-free candy; movies (DVD or VCR); books; large-print word search books; and games (checkers, large-print cards).
