Energy assistance available to eligible


The 2002 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), administered by the City of Rockford Human Services Department, is accepting applications a from income-eligible households in need of assistance paying heating and electric utility bills.

The program has been accepting applications since Sept. 1 from households whose utility service has already been disconnected.

Applications are being accepted at the Human Services Department’s new location at 612 N. Church St., Rockford, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Other sites accepting appointments are: St. Elizabeth’s Center, 1505 S. Main St.-—965-6993, and Northwest Community Center, 1325 N. Johnston Ave.—964-6885.

Rockton, South Beloit and Roscoe residents may apply at: Rockton Township, 1315 N. Blackhawk Blvd.—624-7788.

Boone County households with senior or disabled members may apply at: Keen-Age Center, 2141 Henry Luckow Lane, Belvidere—544-9893.

Households with senior members may apply at: Lifescape, 705 Kilburn—962-6000; NIAAA, 628 Hollister—226-4901; State Rep. Chuck Jefferson’s office, 200 S. Wyman—987-7433.

Households with disabled members may apply at: Salvation Army, 500 S. Rockford—226-4400; Salvation Army, 210 Kilburn—963-2480.

If you received a preprinted form in the mail, please bring it with you at the time of your appointment.
