ESPN Radio to be home of Rock River Raptors

ESPN Radio 1380 “The Jock” and the Rock River Raptors football team have reached an agreement to broadcast all of the team’s 15 games this season. In addition to the games, the Raptors will have a weekly half-hour coach’s show with Head Coach Rik Richards.

The Raptors, who are in their first year in Rockford, are members of the 10-team United Indoor Football League (UIFL). Its home games will be played in the Rockford MetroCentre beginning late March or early April. A schedule of games will be released upon league approval.

Andy Gannon, WIFR-23’s morning anchor, has been part of ESPN Radio 1380 broadcasts of Rockford College football, Beloit College Snapper baseball, and Hononegah High School sports.

“This is the next big thing for sports in Rockford,” Gannon said. “We are thrilled to be able to bring the region exciting professional football action.”

Raptors owners Art Clarkson and Bob Lowe said: “We are excited to be partnering with ESPN Radio 1380. Seeing the Raptors in person will be incredible, and listening to the high-flying action will provide a nice complement to the experience.”

The games will also be broadcast on The Big Easy 93.7 FM, and ESPN Radio 1380’s Web site, which can be found at or the Raptors’ Web site at Rapping with the Coach will air Mondays from 4-4:30 p.m. at the start of the season.

ESPN Radio 1380 is also the home of 20 Rockford IceHogs games, Rockford College Regent football, the Chicago Bulls, Hononegah High School sports, and the NCAA Bowl Championship Series.
