Everson top shooter

Dr. Ralph Everson of Belvidere weathered the conditions as well as the competition from more than 100 participants to win the fourth annual Governor’s Cup Shooting Challenge at Faller’s Sporting Clays near Butler.

Everson broke 92 of 100 targets, describing the course as “definitely challenging, especially when considering the cooler temps, overcast skies and damp weather.” Everson’s win earned him $750 in prize money and was the first for an Illinois shooter in three years. Tom Mack of Grand Rapids, Mich., had won the Cup in 2002 and 2003.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Illinois DNR and the Illinois Conservation Foundation’s youth shooting programs and promotions. Since the ICF is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization, a portion of each shooter’s registration fee is tax deductible.
