SPRINGFIELD, Ill.Next month, Illinois Ex-Prisoners of War (Ex-POW) from throughout the state will gather in Springfield for the 2007 Illinois Department State Convention and Recognition Ceremony, set for April 9-10 in the state capital. The two-day event includes the following:
The annual April 9 Ex-POW Recognition Ceremony, at the Governors Mansion.
The Department of Illinois 2007 Annual Convention, April 9-10 at the Springfield Hilton.
The Departments annual 50/50 raffle drawing April 10.
Each year on April 9, more than 100 Illinois Ex-POWs and their families visit the Governors Mansion in Springfield for a special ceremony honoring their courage and service to the nation. Held on the north lawn, the Illinois Ex-POW Recognition Ceremony pays tribute to U.S. service men and women who were imprisoned in all warswith prayers, speeches, a military honor guard, and anthems played by the Springfield Municipal Band. This years ceremony starts at noon in the north garden of the Illinois Governors Mansion, at Fourth and Jackson streets in downtown Springfield.
The program includes personal testimonials by the veterans themselves, and an honor guard salute by the Inter-veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and Voiture 344 of the Forty and Eight. A yellow-ribbon ceremony honors those military personnel who still remain unaccounted for. All Illinois Ex-POWs and their families are invited to attend. Military veterans and interested citizens are also welcome at the event.
The two-day Illinois Ex-Prisoner of War Convention at the Springfield Hilton starts Monday with the Recognition Ceremony at the Governors Mansion, registration and hospitality from 3-5 p.m. at the hotel, and a 5:30 p.m. buffet dinner at VFW Post 755. Tuesdays schedule includes a 9 a.m. Memorial Service at the hotel, followed by a business meeting and election of officers. Starting at 6 p.m., the 2007 Illinois ExPOW Convention Banquet includes an awards program and the annual 50/50 raffle drawing, the organizations primary fund-raiser.
This October, the Illinois Department will host hundreds of American Ex-Prisoners of War from throughout the country at the 2007 National Convention of American Ex-Prisoners of War in Springfield. Planning for this major event will take place April 10 at the organizations state convention.

2007 AXPOW Department of Illinois Convention Schedule
The 2007 Department of Illinois convention will be held April 9-10 at the Springfield Hilton, 701 E. Adams St., Springfield, IL 62701, phone 217-789-1530. The convention room rate is $79 per night. The hotel is in the heart of the downtown area, within easy walking distance of historic sites and shopping, and is accessible for those with disabilities.
